Runecrafting is a skill that allows players to craft their own runes for Magic spells. Runecrafting is a very slow skill to train through typical means, but rewards runes in the process that are useful in a multitude of ways. It is fairly click and attention intensive, but a beneficial skill to train for Ironmen and those looking to max.

Guardians of the Rift
The Guardians of the Rift will be the best form of Runecrafting training for a multitude of reasons. Completionist requirements, good rewards, fast XP, and more. A full guide on how to complete this minigame can be found here: Click Me.
The Abyss
The Abyss is an area of where players can Runecraft at a variety of altars without the use of Talismans or Tiaras. To travel to this area, you can speak to the Mage of Zamorak located in Arceuus house at home as shown below. All Abyssal Creatures are aggressive, proceed with caution.
Pouches
Throughout the outskirts of The Abyss players can find abyssal creatures that drop pouches. Pouches, depending on the size, store a variety of extra essence inside of them. These pouches are dropped in ascending order based on their size, starting from small and ending with Giant. The chance of receiving a pouch is 1/100 from any Abyssal Creature. The table below demonstrates more details regarding these pouches.
Pouch | Essence Stored | Drop Rate | |
---|---|---|---|
Small Pouch | 3 | 1/100 | |
Medium Pouch | 6 | 1/100 | |
Large Pouch | 9 | 1/100 | |
Giant Pouch | 12 | 1/100 |
Traveling to the Center (altars)
There are two methods to access the altars at the center of The Abyss.
1. Unlocking the Imbued Gratitude silver relic will allow players to instantly teleport to the center of The Abyss where the altars are located. This is a very worthy investment as this relic also allows rune pouches to store 50% more essence. If you are seriously training Runecrafting 1-99 then unlock this relic.
2. You will have to overcome one of the obstacles on the outskirts to be teleported into the center. Potential obstacles are demonstrated in the below table:
Obstacle | Skill Used | Tool Required | |
---|---|---|---|
Tendrils | Woodcutting | Axe | |
Rock | Mining | Pickaxe | |
Eyes | Thieving | N/A | |
Gap | Agility | N/A | |
Boil | Firemaking | Tinderbox | |
Passage | None | N/A |
Zeah Runecrafting
When you reach level 77 Runecrafting following the guide below, you will begin to train via Zeah Runecrafting.
Training Runecrafting
The Platinum+ level of the Donator Zone has the best possible arrangement for training Runecrafting. This offers a semi-afk and fast XP method of Runecrafting Blood runes, Soul runes, and Wrath runes! This is not required in training the skill, but is a very nice boost. See Donator Benefits for more info.
Level 1-14
From levels 1-14 you will be Runecrafting Air Runes. Depending on your gamemode this should only take 1-2 trips to complete.
Level 14-35
From levels 14-35 you will be Runecrafting Fire Runes. This too should be fairly quick.
Level 35-44
From levels 35-44 you will be Runecrafting Chaos Runes. This is where you will begin to notice a major increase in XP gain.
Level 44-54
From levels 44 to 54 you will be Runecrafting Nature Runes.
Level 54-65
From levels 54 to 65 you will be Runecrafting Law Runes.
Level 65 to 77
From levels 65 to 77 you will be Runecrafting Death Runes.
Option 1: Level 77 to 99
For option 1 you can Runecraft Blood runes from level 77 to 99. The reason for doing this option is to achieve the most progress in the Grandmaster task: Blood Pact (Runecraft 50,000 blood runes). However, this is not the best XP per hour.
Option 2: Level 77 to 90
For option 2 you can Runecraft Blood Runes from level 77 to 90. This option will be the fastest XP per hour.
Level 90 to 95
From level 90 to 95 you will be Runecrafting Soul Runes. This will award a couple achievements in the process. This can only be done through Zeah Runecrafting.
Level 95 to 99
From level 95 to 99 you will be Runecrafting Wrath Runes. This is better XP than Soul Runes, however it also rewards the best rune in the game. These can be Runecrafted both for XP and for profit so you might as well use this method from levels 95 to 99. These can only be Runecrafted in the Platinum level Donator Zone, so if you do not have this rank then continue with Soul Runes to 99.
